Young girl with dove. The story of its recovery

14 September 2020

After 77 years the statue of the Young girl with a dove has returned to the Baths of Diocletian.

Thanks to a long investigation conducted by the Protection of Cultural Heritage Department of the Carabinieri and an international effort between Italy and Switzerland, the small bronze statue of a young woman with a dove in her hand was recovered.

Made in Norba between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC for the goddess Giunone Lucina, protector of gestation and birth, it was illegally stolen from the Museum in 1943, in the midst of the Second World War.
